Shortlisted from more than 80 schools in Singapore and over 800 participants in the Design and Technology Awards, 7 D&T students from a mixture of Express, Normal Academic and Technical made their way to Victoria School for their date with destiny on the 14th of November. The students presented their ideas before a panel of judges consisting of celebrated product designers and polytechnic design lecturers with an eye for cutting edge designs. For some, it was a vindication of their hard work over the entire year, while for others; it was another step towards their goal of becoming confident designers. “I didn’t really know what I wanted to pursue after my studies, but now thanks to Mr. Teo’s guidance and showcase, I am sure that I will have a future in design,” commented Bing Han from 412. While not all of our students will make the cut towards wining the coveted DTA awards, it certainly gave them the most valuable thing in life: The heart and mind of a champion. The 13th of November became a day of pride for many Ping Yians when selected 4NT students from our school presented their D&T projects to educators around Singapore. Together with students from other schools, our Ping Yians showcased the fruit of their year-long project work confidently to the mass audience. “I didn’t really have the courage to present my project to so many people, but knowing how proud my teachers and my parents were, it gave me the confidence to stand and deliver,” quipped Nazirah of 422. Nazirah’s success, along with her classmates’, certainly provided a measure of motivation to many others that hard work always pays well in the end!
