Making Healthy Fruit Enzymes

A Science Project by Madam Chua Siew Eng & Mdm Fouzia from Ping Yi Science Lab

What are enzymes?

Enzymes are proteins made by cells in our bodies and all living organisms.  They synthesize chemicals, rearrange molecules, add elements to compounds, and break down compounds.

Science Race 2008

The Science Race was conducted on Wednesday, 5th March 2008 from 1400-1600hr during No Imagethe school IP week. A team of five selected students from each Sec 1 and 2 class participated in the Science Race.

There were five stations located within the school compound which each team was required to go through. The activities in each station were designed for the students to work in groups to solve practical science problems using their knowledge and skills of science.

No ImageStation A was located at level 1 chemistry laboratory where each team was required to do an experiment on density of an egg; and pH of fresh milk, Pepsi, lemonade and Yakult. Station B was located at the foyer where each team was required to measure their body fitness. Station C was located at the canteen where each team was required to find and identify the locations of certain fruit trees. Station D was located at the staircase beside one of the level 1 classroom where each team was required to find out the energy required to climb from the first to the second floor. Station E was located at the ramp near the soccer field where each team was required to find the amount of kinetic energy of a moving ball down the ramp. But this station E was cancelled due to the heavy rain from 1400-1600 hr.
