Tamil Activities Report 2008
Teacher Exchange Programme Ping Yi Tamil Department collaborated with schools in East Zone to conduct language based activities. The schools are namely, Ping Yi, Bedok Town, Temasek and Bedok View. The highlight of this year’s activity is the Teacher Exchange Programme. It is a platform for the Tamil teachers to collaborate and share their pedagogical skills and resources to enrich students’ learning. All Tamil teachers from the participating schools took turns to host the programme and conducted lessons for all the graduating classes. Students from 4E/5NA were taught in depth, on each component every first week of the month from January to May, from 3.00 to 5.00pm. Similarly, the 4NA students also went through the programme but only for two sessions because of time constrain. The programme has proven to be successful as the June result of the graduating classes was more than satisfying for all the participating classes.
Competitions As for competitions, language and talent based competitions, such as essay – writing, singing and oratorical were conducted which provided opportunities for students to showcase their talents. The participating schools took turns to host the competitions. Namely, essay writing was hosted by Ping Yi, Singing Competition by Temasek and Oratorical competition by Bedok View. Our Ping Yians participated in all the competitions enthusiastically and won in all and made us proud. It is a yearly affair, It is our grand activity for the year. Hundreds of students from all the participating schools turned up for the programme and enjoyed themselves. Many interesting activities such as traditional games and skits were conducted for the students to be engaged actively. Prizes for the all competitions were also given out on the same day. Overall, the Language camp ended successfully though the cooperation and hard work of all teachers. IP WEEK During IP Week, Tamil Department brought students to Arab Street on the 4th March 2008. The students found the trip very enriching as it gave them an opportunity to understand the Arabic culture and tradition.
Tamil Language Activities 2007
Ping Yi Secondary School together with other two secondary schools have planned to organise several competitions for Tamil Students throughout the year of 2007. Namely, the first competition was the Essay Writing Competition. It was held in Bedok View Secondary School on the 23rd of February. Four students from our school participated in the competition. The result is yet to be announced. Oratorical Competition was held in Ping Yi Secondary School on the 2nd of March. Again four students participated in the competition and three of them have won in the competition. For lower sec, our students won the second and third prize and won the third prize for the Upper Sec. The competitions and activities that students can look forward to are:
