Review of Direction in 2008

"Empowering Managers, Inspiring Change"

The craft and technology department has traveled a remarkable journey on the wings of its previous leadership.  The department has received numerous recognitions and accolades which serves to establish our sound curriculum; one which provides quality, holistic education to eachieve excellent results in O & NA examinations.

 

Academic Excellence for 2008 NA, NT, O level cohort

In 2008, we continue to witness ground breaking sustainablility in our educational doctrine, achieving 100% passes for 4NA D&T, F&N, art, 4 Express D&T as well as surpassing national average distinction grades.  Our $E D&T has achieved a remarkable 80% distinction.  The 4NT D&T has for the 3rd year exceeded expectatitons with a soaring 96.7% distinction, a markedly improvement over the 73.9% distinction acheived in 2007.  Our 4NA D&T has also achieved a remarkable 100% distinction, attaining the peak of excellence.  Our 4N F7N has also done us proud with a very good performance of 100% pass with 27.8% distinction.  Our 4NA Art has also achieved 100% pass with 60% distinction.  These results bear testimony to the holistic 'peaks of excellence' we had aimed for in 2008.

We will continue to streamline our management processes by focusing on productivity enhancement and effective project management.  We will continue to inspire our young designers by creating platforms for them to experience and showcase their talents in the changing world.

In addition, the underpinning driving force on developing a culture of Innovation & Enterprise had also been a key focus behind the various teaching practices and learning processes.

Holistic Achievements in National Design Competitions and Achievement Awards

2008 is indeed an exciting year for the department in the area of national design competitions and achievement awards.  The strategic direction in adopting industrial engineering design approach in the teaching and learning of Design Education had once again bore fruit with our young designers scoring design awards in the following arena;

 

  • Three[3] National "DEsign & Technology Award" with merits.
  • Three[3] National "Tan Kah Kee Young Inventor Award" [Shortlisted]
  • One[1] Merit award in the National "Greater Than 60 Design Competition"
  • First[1st] in the National "Toy Design Competition"
  • Three[3] fudned projects int he "CitiBank Ideas in Action"
  • Third[3rd] placing in the National "Lam Soon Fod Design Competition"

The team has also done the school proud by clinching the MOE Innergy Bronze Award for recognizing the innovative and enterprising process innovation adopted in shaping the design education in Ping Yi.

 

Direction for 2009 "Peaks of Excellence, Constellation of Stars"

We see that the years ahead will be a difficult time for our young designers, and we will instill in them the qualities and resilience to face the uncertain future - confidence, the courage to dream and aspire, the will to learn and relearn, and lastly, to teach them the skills of today in order to solve the problems of tomorrow.

 

Teacher leadership

We believe in grooming new, sustainable leadership at all levels within the department.  Every manager will be groomed and nurtured, empowered to eprform with speed, self confidence and support of the management process.

"Empowering Managers, Inspiring Change" has enabled us to operate at a higher platform, we will continue to coach our teachers to review and develop instructional programs, and capitalize on empowering the aspirations of our teachers through Innovation & Enterprising initiatives, collaborative shared knowledge and fostering a school environment which is conducive for learning.

I am confident that we will continue to develop a clear management system, sturcture and processes to share, create and to re-create new knowledge.

 

Fostering team synergy

The department continues to share a common belief in developing a cohesive team spirit based on the shared value of trust and respect with transparent communication.

 

Let me thank my predecessor again for establishing a "Formula 1" team with the hunger to shift, move and response to chagnes.  I will continue to lead the department in forging ahead to more peaks of excellence, delivering changes you can believe.

Lastly, with a clear vision for the team, and the right leadership to steer us towards our goal, I am confident that our young Ping Yians will be able to add more value to the professional field of designerly thinking.

1st Quarter Review

In this year, we continue to witness our students develop as confident designers thorough their achievements.  6 projects have been shortlisted in the annual Design and Technology Awards, with 3 clinching Design & Technology awards (with merit).  Our designers were also further selected with 6 projects shortlisted for 2009 Tan Kah Kee's Young Inventor award.
